28 | May/June 2022 | BAEC Bulletin Bar Association Recognizes Law Day Awardees at Annual Luncheon
After a long hiatus because of the COVID-19 health pandemic, the Bar Association was extremely excited to bring back its annual Law Day Luncheon to recognize incredible men and women for their great work in our community. The last couple years of Law Day award presentations had to look drastically different. But on May 3, for the first time since 2019, the legal community was able to get together in person at Templeton Landing to honor the 2022 Law Day Awardees. The event was hosted by Jill K. Bond, BAEC Vice President, and Gayle Towne Murphy, BAEC Deputy Treasurer. Along with the award presentation, we were privileged to hear a message from our keynote speaker, Trini E. Ross, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of New York. Honored on Tuesday included City Honors School for being the 2022 Erie County High School Mock Trial Tournament winners and Charles D. “Chip” Grieco for receiving the NYSBA’S President’s Pro Bono Service Award for the Eighth Judicial District
awarded to Martha Buyer, Esq. The Media Award was presented to Rod Watson, Urban Affairs Editor/ Columnist at The Buffalo News. 211 WNY was the recipient of the Special Service Award. Director Dawn Vanderkooi and Past Director Kelly Dodd were present to accept the award. The Police Officer Award was

awarded to Retired Buffalo Police Commissioner Byron Lockwood. The Justice Award was awarded to Kelly Buckley, Chief Clerk of the Erie County Family Court. Last but certainly not least, the Liberty Bell Award was given to Christine L. Farrow, PhD., Commissioner of Jurors. •
